I raised $80.00 via lump sums from teachers, friends and families, and an additional $3o.80, from two teachers who chose to donate via 10 cents per lap. I raised a total of $110.80.
This means I swam 154 laps in the pool, which is roughly a mile and a half. It felt really good to swim for a straight hour, without stopping. Normally at practice, we do certain lengths to focus on strokes, or build up endurance, but just swimming really worked my muscles.
It was a bit boring at points when I ran out of songs to sing in my head, but for the most part it gave me time to think about things that I had to do, or responses to questions on homework that I needed to think about, or just life in general.
At one point I was really frustrated because another girl in my lane wouldn't pass me, and I couldn't stop to let her go, because I wanted to do as many laps as I could. So I would slow down, but she rarely passed me. I feel like I could have swam more laps, if I hadn't had to slow down for her, but overall I'm happy with my results.
I'm not sure what next week's practice will be, but I'm excited nonetheless.
